Garmin® announces new distributor for North India

New Delhi, June 16, 2012- Garmin Corporation, a unit of Garmin Ltd., the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced new distributor in North India that will be based in New Delhi. The company has entered agreement with AutoForm to distribute the Garmin products in after market of North India. With this step Garmin has took one more step to swarm the Indian market after the launch of cost efficient nüvi 40 LM and 50 LM early in May, 2012.

The agreement will ensure increased market presence in Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs) in India for Garmin. “It has been done keeping in mind the increasing demand of GPS navigation. The GPS market is evolving at 100 per cent rate with current demand being of around 1 lakh devices. North India with cities especially Delhi and Chandigarh hold a huge market potential and will be among the cities with maximum market share,” says Daniel Chien, Garmin Senior Sales Manager, South East Asia and India.

For West and South India Garmin already has agreement with ASPL and Elabs respectively. “We recently launched cost effective nüvi 40 LM and 50 LM with the price tag of Rs 8450 and Rs 9990 respectively. With the features galore in our devices and quality assurance we expect that we will leave an indelible mark on the consumers’ psyche. Free lifetime maps with all our PND devices has already made an impact in the market and it is now the right time to make our devices available to the people through increased network of distributors,” says Chien. “We entered Indian market more than 15 years ago and since then have been able to have a good share in the growing GPS market here,” he adds.

Being a company which has reached a mark of selling more than 100 million products, Garmin enjoys 57% share in personal navigation devices in Americas and around 38% share worldwide. Garmin was founded in 1989 by a small group of engineers with a big idea: that GPS technology could be utilized by everyday consumers for both work and play.  In 1991, Garmin sold its first GPS-enabled device.  Six years later, in 1997, the company sold its millionth unit.  A decade after that, in 2007, it had sold 25 million devices.  It only took another five years for Garmin to sell its 100 millionth product.
